Introduction

This inaugural UMCCed Workshop with practical training session, held in collaboration with GPAM and ZESB, aims to provide participants the "Learn & Do" in limiting domestic solid waste for final disposal. A solid waste stream dominated by organic waaste and inorganic materials will create environmental hazards and a source separation must be carried out:

  • Inorganic for recycling;
  • Organics for composting; and
  • Other hazardous waste for safe treatment and disposal and that all these waste are to be diverted from landfills.

 


Course Objectives

The goals of the Workshop are:

 

  • To provide awareness that domestic solid waste problems are contributed by the consumers' attitudes and actions;
  • to disseminate the four-step approach to domestic solid waste management: recover, reduce, reuse and recycle;
  • to show-case ways where consumers can play major roles in reducing domestic solid waste problems; and
  • to provide a platform for networking among multi-stakeholders for latest information exchange and technology updates on domestic solid waste management.
