ISLAMIC STUDIES

Islamic Studies

The program offered will explain the systems available in the discipline of Shariah studies.
Participants will be exposed to various concepts, meanings, solutions, methods, and various
aspects contained in it covering an issue from the point of view of historical development and
relevant today.

All courses are specially designed to enhance skills and knowledge related to the client
vocation for career advancement. The curriculum, which is developed and designed by
professional lecturers from Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya and also professional
practitioners. All courses are carried out on part-time basis and classes are held on weekends.

SHARIAH STUDIES (COURSE MODULE) - RM430/MODULE

This course is offered in 3 Modules (Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3). Students are asked to select any module they want to follow first, but it is best to start with Module 1. Students who have completed any module and want to take the next one need to apply for it. Course certificate will be awarded for each completed module.

Introduction to Islamic Sharia

Discuss the concept of Shariah and related terms, characteristics, and
resources of Shariah, debate on the knowledge of Islamic Fiqh, the history of
the development of sects and the development of Shariah until now.

Quran Study

Discuss about the nuzul of the Qur’an, the history of the collection of the
Qur’an, its arguments, the interpretation of the Qur’an against the law and
matters related to it.

Al-Sunnah Studies

Discusses the concept of Al-Sunnah in the time of the Companions and
Tabi’in, the writing of al-Sunnah, its figures and works as well as the methods
of controlling the authenticity of Al-Sunnah.

The practice of ljtihad

A description of the concept and role of ijtihad and Islamic Shariah, the
history of its practice and neglect throughout the ages as well as a discussion
of contemporary ijtihad.

Islamic Worship System

A description of the concept of worship in general, the differences between
worship and ceremonies, the conditions of worship accepted and the basic
characteristics of worship as well as the parts of worship.

Islamic Family System

A description of the concept of Islamic family which includes questions of law,
pillars, conditions in marriage and divorce. It will also discuss the rights and
obligations of husband, wife, and children as well as matters related to it.

Islamic Criminal System

A description of the concept of crime in Islam, the basics of its formation, the
elements of crime and its division into hudud, qisas and takzir as well as the
punishment imposed on each of these sections as well as some exceptions
from criminal responsibility.

Islamic Muamalat System

Description of the basics in the Islamic Muamalat system, especially those
related to Islamic contract law, a description of some nominee contracts in
Islamic Fiqh such as buying and selling, musyarakah, prohibited aspects in
muamalat such as riba and gharar.

Islamic Shariah and Malaysian Society

A description of the question of the Muslim community and its structure
in general and the application of Islamic law in the reality of Malaysian
society as well as the question of the challenges of Islamic law to the
changing society today.

Islamic Political System

A description of the concept of Islamic politics, propositions, history
and writing related to the concept of statehood, the principles of Islamic
governance as well as the position of the Legislative, Executive and
Judicial bodies.

Islamic Court System

A description of the concept of justice and the judiciary, qualifications,
and positions as well as the appointment of Judges, judicial jurisdiction,
ethics of a Judge and the procedure of resignation of Judges.

Administration of Islamic Shariah in Malaysia

A description of the history of Islamic law, its relationship with the
Federal Constitution, the codification of Shariah law in the field of Mal
and Crime and several related institutions governing Islamic Shariah in
the country

USULUDDIN STUDIES (COURSE MODULE) - RM420/MODULE

This course is offered in 3 Modules (Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3). Students are asked to select any module they want to follow first, but it is best to start with Module 1. Students who have completed any module and want to take the next one need to apply for it. Course certificate will be awarded for each completedmodule.

Basic beliefs

Description of the basic concepts in the Islamic faith which includes the
concept of monotheism, prophecy, and members of the sunnah wa al-
jama’ah as well as the relationship between faith and sharia.

Tafsir Studies

A description of the study of tafsir al-Quran which includes the definition of
tafsir, the forms of tafsir, the characteristics of eligibility to interpret the verses
of the Qur’an and its division into streams such as al-Ma’thur and al-Ra’y.

Hadith Studies

Description of concepts and terms related to hadith, position, and role of al-
Hadith in Islam as well as a brief history of writing, bookkeeping of al-Hadith
and Ulum al-Hadith, division of al-Hadith from several aspects, factors of its
rejection and methods of narration al-Hadith and its manners.

Sirah Rasulullah

The description of Rasulullah’s sirah starts from his resurrection as Rasul
until his death as well as the effects and form of example that can be applied
by every Muslim individual or better known as fiqh al-sirah.

Islamic thought

A description of the position of reason and Islam, the concept of Islamic
thought, the development of Islamic heritage sciences and its developmental
stage and its contribution in issues of modern thought.

Islamic morality

A description of the concept of morality based on the Qur’an and Sunnah as
well as the morality of the Prophet s.a.w as a system and culture of life to the
construction of an excellent Islamic society.

The basis of Da’wah

A description of the basic issues in da’wah, especially involving the law of
da’wah, methods and levels of da’wah as well as the approach of da’wah in
society in Malaysia.

Fundamentals of Faith II

A description of some important parts of the creed which includes the concept
of the Attributes of Allah, al-Nubuwwah, al-Risalah, al-Qada ‘and al-Qadar
based on the views of the Salaf and Khalaf scholars

Sufism

A description of the concept of Sufism based on the Qur’an and
Sunnah, philosophical mysticism, the development of Sufi tariqah and
factors that may be the cause of the occurrence of mysticism.

Comparison of Religions

The description covers religious aspects in a multi-ethnic and multi-
religious society that includes the divine philosophy, legal sources,
sharia and socio-culture of a nation and religion.

The Flow of Islamic Thought

Descriptions of Islamic thought streams that include the history of
Islamic thought movements such as Traditionalist, Modernist,
Reformist, Tajdid and Secularist streams and Adab al-Ikhtilaf as well as
religious extremist phenomena.

Islamic philosophy

The description includes the history and definition of Islamic
philosophy, Islamic philosophers, and their views, some of the main
questions in Islamic philosophy such as the theory of science, divinity,
nature, morality, politics, society, and comparison with Greek
philosophy

ARABIC LANGUAGE (COURSE MODULE) - RM1500/LEVEL

This course is offered in 3 Modules (Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3). Students are asked to select any module they want to follow first, but it is best to start with Module 1. Students who have completed any module and want to take the next one need to apply for it. Course certificate will be awarded for each completed module.

Skills Language Arabic

Module 1

Reading, writing, listening, and speaking
skills in personal life, education,
community, and health.

Module 2

The basic structure of Arabic grammar (noun focus).

Arabic Appreciation of Islam

Module 1

Texts related to worship, verses of the Quran, al-
Hadith, morals, and history.

Module 2

The premier grammatical structure (focus of verbs,
derivatives, and main components of sentences)

Arabic Islamic Science

Module 1

Texts related to Shariah, Usuluddin and other disciplines of Islamic sciences.

Module 2

Secondary grammatical structure related to sentence development components and language style.

Module 3

Introduction to the science of balaghah

PROFICIENCY IN AL-QURAN RECITATION - RM1500/LEVEL

This course is offered in 3 Modules (Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3). Students are asked to select any module they want to follow first, but it is best to start with Module 1. Students who have completed any module and want to take the next one need to apply for it. Course certificate will be awarded for each completed module.

Basic Certificate of Quranic Skills

Module 1

Introduction to the letters of the Qur’an. Participants are
exposed to the basics of learning the Qur’an, namely the
introduction to the letters of the Qur’an and the line marks along
with the correct sound (makhraj).

Module 2

Participants are exposed to a combination of letters that form a
sentence or word along with the basic laws such as mad,
idgham, izhar, dengung (ghunnah) and other basic laws.

Module 3

Continuation of Module 1 and Module 2. Participants will be
exposed to the words of the Quran that form the verses to be
practiced.

Quran Skills Certificate

Participants were guided to practice reading on short and long

chapters to strengthen their reading proficiency.

 

Module 1

Common surahs: Surah an-Nas, up to al-Dhuha.

Module 2

Selected surahs: Surah Yasin, al-Mulk, and al-Insan and others.

Module 3

Surah al-Baqarah

Certificate of Tajwid al-Quran

Participants were exposed to theoretical tajwid and

trained in correct reading according to the laws of

tajwid in depth.

 

Module 1

Introduction to the science of tajwid along with makhraj and the nature of letters.

Module 2

Participants are exposed to mad laws.

Module 3

Participants will be exposed to the law of waqf and ibtida ‘.

ARABIC GRAMMAR IN AL-QURAN - RM650

This course is offered in 2 Levels (Level 1 and Level 2). Offers are made for each level. Examinations will be held after the completion of each level.
