GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

SPECIAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field with minimum CGPA 3.0 or its equivalent.

Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA between 2.70 to 2.99 and fulfil at least one (1) criterion as follows:

• University Malaya graduate;
• Has at least one (1) year of working experience in related field;
• Has produced publications in the related fields;
• Scholarship recipient;
• Government agency staff;
• Pass the interview conducted by the Faculty; or
• Pass the special assessment by the Faculty

OR

Bachelor's degree with a CGPA between 2.50 to 2.69 and fulfil the criteria as follows;

1. One (1) criteria for UM graduate
2. Two (2) criteria for non-UM graduate

• Has at least one (1) year of working experience in related field;
• Has produced publications in the related fields;
• Scholarship recipient;
• Government agency staff;
• Pass the interview conducted by the Faculty; or
• Pass the special assessment by the Faculty.

OR

Bachelor's degree with a CGPA between 2.00 to 2.49 and fulfil the criteria as follows;

1. One (1) criteria for UM graduate
2. Two (2) criteria for non-UM graduate

• Has related working experience in the related field not less than five (5) years;

• Published at least one (1) publication in a refereed journal in the related field;

• Passed the interview conducted by the Faculty (compulsory for non UM graduate applicant); or

• Pass the special assessment by the Faculty.

OR

Possessed Professional qualification from a recognized professional body

OR

Possessed other qualifications approved by Senate from time to time.

OR

APEL (A) qualification (only for programme by Mixed Mode and by Coursework)

1. Bachelor's Degree in Usuluddin/ Islamic Studies or in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent accepted by the Senate;

OR

2. Bachelor's Degree in Usuluddin/ Islamic Studies or in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not exceeding 2.74 is acceptable subject to special assessment by the Faculty

OR

3. Bachelor's Degree in Usuluddin/ Islamic Studies or in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not exceeding 2.49 can be accepted subject to the following criteria:

• At least have five (5) years of working experience in a related field;
• Pass the special assessment of the Faculty

OR

4. Candidates who do not have a Bachelor's Degree in Usuluddin/ Islamic Studies or in a related field or do not have work experience in a related field MUST ATTEND AND PASS a pre -requisite course set by the Faculty and achieve a minimum CGPA subject to (i) to (iii).

A minimum score of Band 5.5 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic);

OR

A score of Band 4 and above in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET);

OR

A Grade C and above in English for General Certificate of Education
(A Level), University of Cambridge;

OR

A minimum score of 550 for Paper-based Test (PBT), a score of 213 for Computer Based Test (CBT) or a score of 80 for Internet-based Test (IBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL);

OR

A score of 42 and above in the Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: First (FCE);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Advanced (CAE);

OR

A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Proficiency (CPE).

Note: A score which according to the programme standard respectively if it is higher than the score for IETLS and TOEFL. For any programme standard which states that the TOELF or IELTS (Academic) score to be lower than what had been constituted by the University, these programmes have to follow the minimum score set by the University.

Exemption may be granted to:

• Those applicants that originated from a country that uses the English Language as the National Language.
• Those applicants that possessed an Academic Qualification from an institution that uses the English Language fully as the medium of instruction.
• Those applicants that further their studies in Malaysia and planning to pursue their studies to a higher level and subject to requirement in number two (2).

1. Non-citizen applicants who obtain their Bachelor’s degree from a university or institution of higher learning that does not use English as the medium of instruction for the degree who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s degree program and/or write their dissertation in English are required to meet the English competency requirements set by the University such as the following:

1. Non-citizen applicants who want to pursue a Master's Degree program (other than certain programs in the Faculty of Languages ​​& Linguistics and all programs in the Faculty of Medicine) must obtain at least the following results in one of the English proficiency examinations specified below:

• A Minimum Score of Band 5.5 For The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic); OR
• A minimum score of 550 for Paper-based Total (PBT), a score of 213 for Computer- Based Total (CBT) or a score of 80 for Internet-based Total (iBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR
• Band 4 and above in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); OR
• A score of 42 and above in the Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic); OR
• A Grade C and above in English for General Certificate of Education (A Level), University of Cambridge; OR
• A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: First (FCE); OR
• A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Advanced (CAE); OR
• A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Proficiency (CPE).
• For any standard program that places a TOEFL or IELTS (Academic) score lower than the University's minimum score, that programs shall follow the minimum score set by the University;

2. However, anything provided above, subject to the approval by the Senate and based on the requirements of the Master's Degree program, the Faculty may consider English language qualifications/ competencies other than those specified in paragraph (1) above.

3. Non-citizen applicants with the following backgrounds are exempted from the prescribed English language qualification requirements:

(a) originates from a Country that uses English as the National Language;
(b) use academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the language
(c) a full introduction; or
(d) has studied in Malaysia and intends to further his studies to a higher level subject to condition (b).

Basic qualification requirements Bahasa Malaysia competency requirements

1. Non-citizen applicants are required to meet the requirements of Bahasa Malaysia before the award of the degree.
2. A non-citizen applicant who has studied at a Public Institution of Higher Learning (IPTA) in Malaysia and intends to pursue studies to a higher level is exempted from condition (1)
