Bachelor of Shariah & Law

The Bachelor of Shariah and Law is designed to expose students with necessary skills and expertise in Islamic judiciary and advocacy. Similar exposure is channelled towards important Malaysian civil law subjects.The core courses include Islamic Property Law, Administration of Islamic Law, Islamic Judiciary and Islamic Family Law.The programme aims to produce graduates who are fully equipped with the substantive and procedural laws including some professional courses introduced in the programme.

A Malaysian candidate who wishes to pursue a programme of study at the University of Malaya must fulfill the University's entry requirements as follows:

  1. Passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July paper and pass in History; and
  2. Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) as required in special requirements of the programme. and
  3. Fulfilled any of the programme Entry Requirements as below:

Arts Stream

Pass STPM with a minimum CGPA of 3.00;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in STPM for Syariah / Usuluddin;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in STPM for Bahasa Arab;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for Bahasa Arab / Al-Lughah al-Arabia al-Mu’asirah;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B+ in SPM for Bahasa Inggeris;
and
Obtained of at least Band 2 for MUET.

MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION (Current Year)

Arts Stream

Pass Islamic Studies Foundation (Universiti Malaya) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for  Syariah/  Usuluddin;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for  Bahasa Arab/  Al-Lughah al-Arabia al-Mu’asirah;
and
Obtained of at least Band 2  for MUET.

STAM

Obtained of at least Jayyid Jiddan in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM);
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for  Bahasa Arab/  Al-Lughah al-Arabia al-Mu’asirah;

and
Obtained of at least Grade B+ in SPM for Bahasa Inggeris;
and
Obtained of at least Band 2 for MUET.

DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT

REQUIREMENT 1

Possessed a Diploma in Islamic Studies or relevant field recognised by Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate with a minimum CGPA of 3.00
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for  Bahasa Arab/  Al-Lughah al-Arabia al-Mu’asirah and at least Grade B at Diploma in Bahasa Arab;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B+ in SPM for Bahasa Inggeris;
and
Obtained of at least Band 2 for MUET.
OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Pass STPM not within the current year with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and a minimum of Grade B in STPM for Syariah/  Usuluddin;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in STPM for Bahasa Arab;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B in SPM for  Bahasa Arab/  Al-Lughah al-Arabia al-Mu’asirah;
and
Obtained of at least Grade B+ in SPM for Bahasa Inggeris;
and
Obtained of at least Band 2 for MUET.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

International Students

Entry Requirements

  • National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level equivalent) with the grade 80% and above 

OR

  • A Diploma from recognized Institutions with the least a CGPA of 3.00
  • Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection programme before being accepted by the respective faculty

English Language Requirements

  • Effective from February 2019 intake, the English requirements has been updated and International students applying for the undergraduate programmes at University of Malaya must obtain:
    • A band of 6.0 and above in IELTS (Academic); or
    • A score of 600 (PBT) or 100 (IBT) and above in TOEFL
