Bachelor of Economics
The Bachelor of Economics programme is designed to provide solid grounding in theory and economic knowledge and improve the critical and analytical skills of students. The core and elective courses are shaped to produce graduates with broad based as well as specialised knowledge. Beginning in 2021, the newly introduced specialization system provides students the option to specialise in one of five (5) areas, namely;
- Applied Economics
- Financial Economics
- Development Studies
- Applied Statistics and Analytics
- Public Administration
or
A credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July papers and pass in History (SPM 2013 and above);
and
Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) as required in special requirements of the programme.
and
Have fulfilled all special requirements of the programme as may be prescribed by the Senate.
STPM
Science / Arts Stream (Current Year)
Pass the STPM with at least CGPA 3.30;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the STPM level in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics
- Accounting
- Mathematics (M) / Mathematics (T)
- Business Studies
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION (Current Year)
Science / Accounting Stream (Current Year)
Pass the Matriculation / Foundation with at least CGPA 3.30;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the Matriculation/Foundation level in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics
- Accounting
- Mathematics
- Business Studies
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 2.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 2.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT
REQUIREMENT 1
Possess a Diploma in Economics and Administration or other related fields from any institution recognized by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the University’s Senate with at least CGPA 3.30;
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
OR
REQUIREMENT 2
Passed STPM not in current year with at least CGPA 3.30 and obtained at least Grade B in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics
- Accounting
- Mathematics (M) / Mathematics (T)
- Business Studies
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
OR
REQUIREMENT 3
Pass the Matriculation/ Foundations not in current year with at least CGPA 3.30;
Obtained at least Grade B at the Matriculation/Foundation level in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics;
- Accounting;
- Mathematics;
- Business Studies
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMENT 1
Pass the GCE A-Level with at least Grade B in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics;
- Accounting;
- Mathematics;
- Business Studies;
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
and
Obtained at least Band 5 in IELTS (Academic);
or
Obtained score of at least 500 points (PBT) / 173 points (CBT) / 60 points (IBT) in TOEFL;
OR
REQUIREMENT 2
Possess the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) with a minimum score of 30 points
and
Obtained at least Grade 5 at Higher Level (HL) in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics;
- Mathematics;
- Business Studies;
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
Obtained at least Band 5 in IELTS (Academic);
or
Obtained score of at least 500 points (PBT) / 173 points (CBT) / 60 points (IBT) in TOEFL;
OR
REQUIREMENT 3
Possess the Australian Matriculation programme (AUSMAT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) rank of 80 percent (%);
and
Obtained at least 16 points (High Achievement) at the AUSMAT level in any one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics;
- Mathematics;
- Business Management & Enterprise;
- Accounting & Finance;
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
Obtained at least Band 5 in IELTS (Academic);
or
Obtained score of at least 500 points (PBT) / 173 points (CBT) / 60 points (IBT) in TOEFL;
OR
REQUIREMENT 4
Passed the Malaysian Sports School Pre-University Certificate with at least CGPA 3.30;
and
Obtained at least Grade B at the level of Malaysian Sports School Pre-University Certificate in one (1) of the following subjects:
- Economics
- Accounting
- Mathematics
- Business Management
and
Obtained at least Grade B+ at the SPM level in Mathematics;
and
Obtained at least band 3.0 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the exam session 1 of 2021 or band 3.0 for examination up to the year of 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application.
However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
Obtained at least Band 5 in IELTS (Academic);
or
Obtained score of at least 500 points (PBT) / 173 points (CBT) / 60 points (IBT) in TOEFL;
A total of 126 credits are required to complete the Bachelor of Economics programme as follows;

A student will graduate with a specialisation after he/she has completed the programme requirements and fulfilled a minimum of 7 courses (21 credits) from a particular specialisation.
